Living History

Originally built in the late 1800s, Atherton’s Trolley Barn served as a warehouse for Atherton Mill, Charlotte’s first textile mill. The nearby Parks-Cramer building (now housing Anthropologie and other retail/restaurants) was built in 1919 as a factory for cotton mill air conditioning machines. After decades of decline, a bold 1990s vision sparked the area’s transformation into a vibrant South End hub.

Historic Charm, Modern Retail

Redeveloped by EDENS in 2019, Atherton blends preserved mill architecture with a curated mix of national retailers, local breweries, coffee roasters, boutiques, and chef-driven restaurants—bringing new life to this historic landmark.

The Soul of South End

Now a premier destination in Charlotte, Atherton offers a walkable gathering place with local markets, fitness classes, live music, and more. Located on Charlotte’s Rail Trail and steps from the Lynx Blue Line, this thriving urban site is where history, community and culture meet.
